PRS Guitars: Celebrating 30 Years

In 1985 a long, curly-haired Paul Reed Smith took a selection of PRS Custom and PRS Guitars (later known as the Custom 24 and Standard 24) to a tradeshow and PRS Guitars was born. Unbeknownst to everyone at the time, Paul was becoming “arguably the first ‘little guy’ to give guitar making giants…a run for their money. By upping the ante on quality, PRS compelled big American companies to improve their game, resulting in a full-blown American guitar renaissance,” (Guitar World). From two electric guitar models, to a full line up of electric guitars and basses, acoustic guitars, and amplifiers, PRS has kept that quality standard and has grown into a major industry presence.

In celebration of the last three decades, PRS will be creating a series of blog stories recounting moments from the last 30 years as well as inviting and presenting testimonials from artists and players on their experiences with Paul and PRS guitars.

Please join us in celebrating the history, and future, of PRS.

Stunning New Private Stock Models From PRS Guitars Head to Europe

Private Stock Models For Europe

We’re very excited about the new Private Stock Model series, it has to be said..

Brought to you by the same team responsible for the pinnacle of PRS’s output (the ‘fantasy spec’ Private Stock ‘Built To Order’ guitars), the new Private Stock Models are a range of six instruments with predetermined spec options, built using the highest quality materials available. And because they’re built in small batch runs, the Private Stock Models come with lower price tags than their ‘one-off’ cousins (from £5995 / €6995 to £6995 / €8495).

All the guitars feature Private Stock grade woods, beautiful abalone and Mother Of Pearl inlays and the cream of PRS Guitars’ pickup selection. To learn more about the Private Stock models visit

PRS SE Bernie Marsden Ltd Edition Colours!

Bernie Marsden’s signature PRS SE model is a truly fabulous guitar, designed to deliver big, fat vintage-style tone in a seriously good-looking package. With its super-comfortable wide-fat 22-fret neck and a pair of SE 245 humbuckers, Bernie’s guitar just feels and sounds spot-on. Reviews of the guitar in the press have always been glowing too. Guitarist magazine’s Dave Burrluck reckons the SE Bernie Marsden is, “A more vintage-informed version of the SE245 – if you like your single-cuts rooted in the fifties, you’ll like this!”

So we’re really excited to introduce no less than five Limited Edition colours for the SE Bernie Marsden in Europe (alongside black, which is now a standard colour option for the guitar). The new limited colours available are Black Cherry, Santana Yellow, Sapphire and Gold Metallic, with spalted maple also a new option. Just how good do they look!?

Translucent colours feature a flame maple veneer top, with every version based around a classic mahogany body and 22-fret, 24.5” scale length mahogany neck. Cream body binding and bound rosewood fingerboard set off the simple good looks of the SE Bernie Marsden, which is powered by a pair of SE245 humbuckers, two volume controls, single tone control and 3-way toggle selector switch.

Even better, the new Limited Edition colour versions are available at the same price as the original, at just £714 / €869 (inc VAT) including PRS SE gigbag!

PRS SE Angelus Competition

The PRS SE Angelus is a great acoustic guitar. Total Guitar magazine called it “a genuinely knockout guitar” while Acoustic Guitar reckoned “it’s definitely time to stop calling PRS an electric-only guitar maker”. And now, if you buy an SE Angelus before the end of September, you could win a recording session at the beautifully-equipped Headline Studios ( near Cambridge!

All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning a half-day session at the studio is to video yourself playing your new SE Angelus, post it to YouTube and send us a link on our Facebook page, or Tweet us!

We’re not looking for amazing video quality (or even incredible chops), we’re just looking for some great music made on the SE Angelus. So whether you’re a singer/songwriter or a drop-tuning, finger-tapping acoustic whizz, we want to see it all.

We’ll be highlighting our favourite videos on Facebook during the competition, and will be picking two winners in the first week of October 2013.
