PRS Guitars and John Mayer Introduce Limited Edition Private Stock Super Eagle

supereagle_angle

PRS Guitars and John Mayer have announced a special run of Private Stock “Super Eagle” instruments. The Private Stock Super Eagle is the result of a very close collaboration between famed guitar maker Paul Reed Smith and Grammy-winning musician John Mayer. The goal of the partnership was to create a highly-sophisticated and unique instrument that at once reveres the history of guitar-making and guitar tone but pushes the boundaries of materials, design, and craftsmanship. The result is a truly new PRS instrument that embodies the PRS Private Stock culture of meticulous workmanship as well as Mayer’s keen eye for playability, tone, and detail.

“Working with John has been a truly rewarding experience. His knowledge and understanding of guitars is highly sophisticated,” said Paul Reed Smith. “We were on the phone on a literally daily basis attacking this project, and I am so proud to see this guitar on stage and in the studio with John and to be able to offer it to musicians and collectors to enjoy.”

Some of the more distinctive and personalized specifications Mayer and Smith decided on for this special run of instruments include a longer (for PRS) scale length of 25.375”, specially-wound 58/15 JM treble and bass pickups with a specially-wound Narrowfield JM pickup in the middle position (with three individual coil-tap mini-switches), a JCF Audio preamp with treble boost, as well as a hand-signed sticker in the f-hole of the guitar that was designed by Mayer’s friend David Smith (who also designed the cover art for Mayer’s 2012 “Born and Raised” album). The pickups deliver a bright, clear tone that has been heard in venues across the USA in Mayer’s recent performances with Dead & Company.

But according to Mayer, this guitar won’t stop with Dead & Company. “Paul and I worked very closely to create this guitar, and the result is an incredibly refined and elegant instrument. It has a completely new sound and spirit. It’s been a joy to play and I’m excited to share that experience with other guitar players,” John Mayer.

Welcome Back CE 24!

It’s perhaps the perfect way to welcome in the New Year – the re-introduction of the much-loved CE 24 model (with some new tweaks, of course..!) to the PRS line-up.

Originally introduced in 1988, the CE was first conceived to offer players PRS design and build quality with the added snap and sparkle of traditional bolt-on guitars – now it’s back after nearly a decade away from the PRS catalogue, and it’s better than ever.

The new CE sticks to the classic PRS combination of mahogany back and maple top, with bolt-on maple neck and rosewood fingerboard – and boasts a Pattern Thin neck carve and satin nitro finish for a natural, sleek feel.

To maximise the guitar’s inherent tone and clarity, the CE 24 features the fabulous PRS 85/15 pickups, which Paul designed to have remarkable clarity as well as extended high and low end. The electronics consist of a volume and push/pull tone control with 3-way toggle switch for a total of six classic sounds.

The CE 24 is offered in eight classic PRS colours – Amber, Dark Cherry Sunburst, Grey Black, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Ruby, Trampas Green, Vintage Sunburst and Whale Blue.

The PRS CE 24 is available in Europe now, with a recommended retail price of £1869 / €2699

Happy Birthday Private Stock!

Just feast your eyes on these beauties…

This year sees the 20th anniversary of PRS Guitars’ Private Stock programme and to mark the occasion we’re making 40 (yes, just 40!) very special guitars.

The 20th Anniversary Private Stock model was created with lots of input from Paul Reed Smith, who went back to Howard Leese (Heart)’s Golden Eagle for inspiration. Like the Golden Eagle, these guitars have slightly modified body dimensions, with a 1/16” thinner top and 1/8” thicker back than the normal PRS “Custom” body design, for a warmer tone.

Paul also specified a very precise 24.6” scale length neck and hand-selected all of the East Coast curly maple tops from what he felt were two of the best batches of maple in PRS’s history. The electronics are also unique, with a three pickup configuration consisting of two narrow 408 treble and bass pickups and a Narrowfield middle pickup. The 5-way blade switch and control placements also nod to the Golden Eagle’s original electronics layout.

These gorgeous, limited and highly collectible guitars will have a retail price of £8299 / €11 950 and you can find out about the full specs here.

A New Brace Of Baritones!

And now for something a little different..

We’re very happy to announce that the 2016 PRS SE line-up will feature a pair of baritone models – the SE277 and SE277 Semi Hollow Soapbar.

Tuned B to B (two and a half steps below standard), the two new guitars are designed to give a taut, muscular low end with powerful aggressive tones – and offer the flexibility of going from chimey clean sounds, to warm depth, to articulate tonal hostility.

Named for its baritone 27.7” scale length neck, the SE 277 Semi Hollow Soapbar takes the traditional mahogany back/maple top platform to new territories with its chambered back, f-hole, and dual soapbar pickup configuration. The semi-hollow body provides increased acoustic resonance and clarity while the soapbars deliver a balance of transparent, uncompressed clean tones and thick growl.

If you’re more comfortable with more traditional styling, PRS has introduced the SE 277, which features the same 27.7” baritone scale length as its semi-hollow brother but with a solid body and PRS SE dual humbucking pickups. The SE 277 covers the spectrum of sound from sparkling highs, to surf-rock jangle, to heavy down-tuned aggression.

Both the SE 277 Semi Hollow Soapbar and SE277 include a beveled maple top with flame maple veneer, mahogany back, 22-fret maple neck with rosewood fingerboard with bird inlays, PRS-designed plate-style bridge, PRS-designed tuners, volume and tone with a 3-way toggle pickup switch.

The beautiful new additions are available in Gray Black and Vintage Sunburst (SE277 Semi Hollow Soapbar) and Black Cherry and Tobacco Sunburst (SE277). The PRS SE277 Semi-Hollow Soapbar is available in Europe now, with the SE277 expected February 2016

Both the SE277 and the SE277 Semi Hollow Soapbar carry a recommended retail price of £795 / €1149

New S2 Standard Satins Revealed

It might only be November, but already PRS have lifted the lid on the first of the 2016 range – three fabulous new S2 Standard Satin models in 24, 22 and Singlecut flavours.

Each of the new models is available in Charcoal, McCarty Tobacco, Vintage Cherry and Vintage Mahogany satin nitro finish – a super thin finish designed to enhance the vintage vibe of the S2 Standards and promote the warm, balanced resonance of the all-mahogany bodies.

PRS use no grain filler on the S2 Standards and allow the nitro clear coat to sink right into the wood, which looks great now and will age beautifully. And the satin finish on the neck gives it an immediately worn-in natural feel, like it’s already done a thousand gigs.

The S2 Standard 24, 22 and Singlecut Satins otherwise stick to the same specs as the original S2 Standards – set mahogany necks complement the mahogany bodies, locking tuners, PRS-designed pickups and push/pull tone controls.

Each of the new S2 Standard Satin models retails for £999 / €1395 and you can find out more and watch the guitars in action here!

Limited Edition SE A10E Acoustics For Europe!

We’ve been really pleased with the way the press and public alike have taken to the SE A10E acoustic. It’s been warmly-received by players and magazine writers for its mid-rangey, punchy tone – which is down to its all-mahogany construction and X-bracing/classical hybrid bracing.

To know Paul Reed Smith, the working founder and Managing General Partner of PRS Guitars, is to know a man who is always pushing the proverbial envelope. His persistent desire to explore and discover is a huge part of PRS Guitars dynamism. So, when Paul and the R&D team ramped up their dissection and testing of pickups a couple years ago, it became very clear very quickly that something new was about to be born. Enter the PRS 58/15 pickups, introduced for PRS’s 30th Anniversary year.

Each 58/15 equipped Custom 24 guitar will have an artist grade figured maple top, mahogany back, 24-fret, 25” scale length ‘Pattern Regular’ or ‘Pattern Thin’ mahogany neck with gaboon ebony fretboard, Solid Shell “Blue Purple” Red Abalone Birds (Pattern Regular neck) or Solid Shell “Dark Special” Red Abalone Birds (Pattern Thin neck), gaboon ebony headstock veneer with green abalone signature, Phase III locking tuners, 58/15 treble and bass pickups, one volume and one push/pull tone control with a PRS 3-way toggle pickup selector.
