PRS Guitars and John Mayer Introduce Limited Edition Private Stock Super Eagle

supereagle_angle

PRS Guitars and John Mayer have announced a special run of Private Stock “Super Eagle” instruments. The Private Stock Super Eagle is the result of a very close collaboration between famed guitar maker Paul Reed Smith and Grammy-winning musician John Mayer. The goal of the partnership was to create a highly-sophisticated and unique instrument that at once reveres the history of guitar-making and guitar tone but pushes the boundaries of materials, design, and craftsmanship. The result is a truly new PRS instrument that embodies the PRS Private Stock culture of meticulous workmanship as well as Mayer’s keen eye for playability, tone, and detail.

“Working with John has been a truly rewarding experience. His knowledge and understanding of guitars is highly sophisticated,” said Paul Reed Smith. “We were on the phone on a literally daily basis attacking this project, and I am so proud to see this guitar on stage and in the studio with John and to be able to offer it to musicians and collectors to enjoy.”

Some of the more distinctive and personalized specifications Mayer and Smith decided on for this special run of instruments include a longer (for PRS) scale length of 25.375”, specially-wound 58/15 JM treble and bass pickups with a specially-wound Narrowfield JM pickup in the middle position (with three individual coil-tap mini-switches), a JCF Audio preamp with treble boost, as well as a hand-signed sticker in the f-hole of the guitar that was designed by Mayer’s friend David Smith (who also designed the cover art for Mayer’s 2012 “Born and Raised” album). The pickups deliver a bright, clear tone that has been heard in venues across the USA in Mayer’s recent performances with Dead & Company.

But according to Mayer, this guitar won’t stop with Dead & Company. “Paul and I worked very closely to create this guitar, and the result is an incredibly refined and elegant instrument. It has a completely new sound and spirit. It’s been a joy to play and I’m excited to share that experience with other guitar players,” John Mayer.

Limited Edition SE A10E Acoustics For Europe!

We’ve been really pleased with the way the press and public alike have taken to the SE A10E acoustic. It’s been warmly-received by players and magazine writers for its mid-rangey, punchy tone – which is down to its all-mahogany construction and X-bracing/classical hybrid bracing.

And now we’re delighted to have a limited edition run of these lovely guitars heading to Europe. We have a single batch of this run – when they’re gone, they’re gone – available in four stunning colours. And they’ll only ever be available in Europe!

In terms of design and build, they stick faithfully to the original A10E, which means mahogany top, back, sides and neck, rosewood fingerboard, bone nut and saddle, PRS-designed tuners and PRS’s trademark bird inlays. The SE A10E is also fitted with undersaddle electronics that are accessible via the soundhole with both tone and volume controls.

The limited edition SE A10E run encompasses four stunning colours – Antique White, Cherry Sunburst, Tobacco Sunburst and Vintage Cherry, available at a recommended retail price of £499 / €699.

All New S2 Vela

There have been lots of exciting new models from PRS already in 2015, but today’s a particularly good day – because here’s the all-new, made-in-the-US, quirky, stripped-for-action S2 Vela!

Joining the Mira and Starla in PRS’s ‘alt-guitars’ S2 line-up, the Vela is a hugely characterful new addition that brings together the best of vintage and modern guitar design. An offset, bevel-cut mahogany body with pattern regular neck are at the heart of things, but it’s perhaps the pickups and bridge that will first grab your attention…

The humbucker is the (coil-tappable) PRS-designed Starla model, while the neck pickup is the brand new Type-D singlecoil, giving a great swathe of confident, strident and chunky tones to choose from. The  new PRS plate-style bridge has two brass saddles – designed to compensate for intonation – and an aluminum plate, both of which help provide maximum tonal sustain. This bridge harks back to Paul’s early designs and traditional bass plate-style bridges, but is top-loading for easy restringing.

In short, we think this is a fantastic new choice for those looking for PRS standards of build quality and tone in a slightly more edgy, funky package.

S2 Vela finish options comprise Antique White, Black, McCarty Tobacco, Seafoam Green, Sienna, Vintage Cherry and Vintage Mahogany

The S2 Vela will be available in Europe from April 2015 and has a recommended retail price of £1199 / €1699

New SE Standard Santanas!

The PRS SE Standard range, which launched at the end of 2014, has been going down a storm over the last few months.

All mahogany construction, great PRS-designed pickups, birds inlays – these guitars really are fantastic, despite their £399/€499 price tag.. They even come with an excellent SE gigbag!

So we’re pleased to announce the arrival of the final models from the range, the wonderful Santana and Santana Special guitars. The former are fitted with humbuckers and trem, while the Special gets a pair of PRS-designed P90s and a stop tailpiece for super-stripped down rock’n’roll action.

With their flat tops, 24 1/2″ scale length, wide-fat necks and vintage-inspired colours these are set to be stars of the Standard line-up, and they’ll be in shops very soon!

30th Anniversary Private Stock Dragon Takes Flight!

The unveiling of a new PRS Dragon guitar is always exciting – and the latest incarnation of this legendary instrument is particularly spectacular.

First glimpsed at NAMM 2015, the PRS Private Stock 30th Anniversary Dragon is the first PS version of the super-exclusive limited edition guitars whose lineage traces back to 1992. And it’s one of the most eye-catching of them all.

As with all of the previous seven Dragon guitars, the Private Stock 30th Anniversary’s most prominent feature is the sumptuous inlay work. Designed by fantasy artist Jeff Easley (famed for his Dungeons & Dragons rulebook covers), the inlay work was created by Aulson Inlay and features more than 285 individual parts fashioned from a wide array of gorgeous materials including jade, azurite, lapis, pyrite, abalone, and mother of pearl.

But the inlay is only the icing on the cake, of course.  Extraordinary Private Stock grade tone woods were hand selected for this very limited series and include a curly maple top (with a “pre-factory” style carved top and available in Tiger’s Eye and Nightshade colours), African ribbon mahogany back and mahogany neck (with “pre-factory” style Pattern Regular carve) with a 24 fret Madagascar rosewood fingerboard. The newly introduced 85/15 treble and bass pickups are some of our favourites too – really powerful but perfectly balanced and versatile as a result. And the 30th Anniversary Dragon’s hybrid hardware includes PRS Phase III locking tuners and the PRS patented tremolo system.

Only 40 of the Private Stock 30th Anniversary Dragons will be produced, with just a handful heading to Europe. Demand is expected to be extremely high, so you’ll need to speak to your PRS dealer without delay if you don’t want to miss out on a piece of guitar history…

PRS SE Standards Unveiled

It’s hard to believe that PRS Guitars’ SE range has been around for 13 years. But it’s true – since 2001 the series has been offering incredible quality and great tone at affordable prices.

Now the new SE Standard line-up is taking this philosophy to another level! Inspired by Paul Reed Smith’s early pre-factory guitars of the 1970s and early 80s, the SE Standards are built using all-mahogany construction and deliver fantastic tone thanks to their PRS-designed pickups. Despite their stripped-down price (the SE Standard series starts at just £399 / €499)  the new guitars also sport a host of features shared with top-of-the-line PRS models including the iconic birds inlays, PRS stoptail or trem bridges and PRS’s legendary wide-thin or wide-fat neck carves.

Of course, PRS’s renowned manufacturing standards are very much in evidence in the SE Standard range and with every guitar receiving a comprehensive pre-delivery inspection, they’re gig-ready right out of the box! Each model even ships in a PRS SE gigbag…

There is a great choice of models in the series too, including versions of much-loved PRS classics (with a couple of others due early in 2015 – stay tuned for news!)…
